BUILDING AN EXCEL DASHBOARD



  

 


DESCRIPTION

This is a Descriptive Analysis of the Data on the World's population from 2010 to 2020.  The main information provided are Various Metrics (Series by which data is classified), Country, and Region. More on the Series is available below

The Dashboard visualizes the data of the World Population by metrics such as:

1. Infant Mortality for both sexes per (1000 Live births).
2. Life Expectancy for both sexes(years)
3. Life Expectancy at birth female (years)
4. Life Expectancy at birth for males (years)
5. Maternal Mortality ratio (deaths per 100,000 population)
6. Population annual rate of increase(percent)
7. Total fertility rate (children per woman
)

It also displays a time series from 2010 to 2022 at a five-year interval.

The various charts on the dashboard were created to interact with each other by the use of the slicers


DATA 

The data was sourced from data.un.org.  Columns with information not useful to the analysis were taken out. There were no empty cells or duplicate entries. The data was a CSV file not in a format convenient for analysis, hence data wrangling was carried out to put the data in a proper format. All columns were properly labeled.

The period under review is from 2010 to 2020 at five-year intervals.

It was further broken down by series into Countries and Regions

FINDINGS

1. Infant Mortality for both sexes per (1000 Live births).

By the Infant Mortality for both sexes data, the regions with the highest are the African regions. Whereas, Southern Europe, Australia and New Zealand, and Western Europe recorded the lowest Infant Mortality.
The Countries with the highest Infant Mortality for both sexes are Sierra Leone, Chad, and the Central African Republic. The countries with the lowest Infant Mortality for both sexes are Singapore, Iceland and China/Hong Kong SAR.

Infant Mortality for both sexes has been on a decline from 2010 till 2020


2. Life Expectancy for both sexes (years)

Australia and New Zealand, Southern Europe, and Western Europe had the highest Life Expectancy for both sexes while the regions with the lowest Life Expectancy for both sexes are Western Africa, Middle Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa.
Japan, China/Macao SAR, and China/Hong Kong SAR recorded high Life Expectancy for both years while the Central African Republic, Lesotho, and Sierra Leone recorded the lowest Life Expectancy.

Life Expectancy was seen to be on an increase over the years.

3. Life Expectancy at birth for females (years)

Regions that had a high Life Expectancy at birth for females are Australia and New Zealand, Southern Europe, and Western Europe while Western Africa, middle Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa were the regions with the lowest Life Expectancy at birth for Females.
The following Countries recorded a high Life Expectancy at birth for females; Japan, China/Hong Kong SAR, and China/Macao SAR. While the lowest were: The Central African Republic, Lesotho, and Sierra Leone.

Life Expectancy at birth for females has been on an increase over the years.

4. Life Expectancy at birth for males (years)

Australia and New Zealand, Southern Europe, and Western Europe were the regions with the highest Life Expectancy at birth for males. Western Africa, Middle Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa had the lowest life expectancy at birth for males.

China/Hong Kong SAR, Ice Land and Switzerland were the countries with the highest Life Expectancy at birth for males. At the same time, the Central African Republic, Eswatini, and Lesotho had the lowest Life Expectancy at birth for males.

Life Expectancy at birth for males has been on an increase over the years.

5. Maternal Mortality ratio (deaths by 100,000)

Maternal Mortality ratios were high in the following regions: Western Africa, Middle Africa, and Sub-Saharan Africa while it was low in Australia and New Zealand, Western Europe, and Southern Europe.

It was high in the following countries: Sierra Leone, Chad and South Sudan. While it was low in Poland, Italy, and Norway.

Maternal Mortality has been on the decline over the years.

6. Population annual rate of increase (percent)

The population has been increasing the most annually in all the African regions, while it has been increasing the least annually in the European Regions.
The population has been increasing annually in countries such as  Qatar, U.A.E, and Oman while it has been decreasing in countries such as Lithuania, Puerto Rico, and Wallis and Futuna Islands.

The population has been increasing annually over the years.

7. Total Fertility rate (Children per woman)

The African Regions had the highest Total Fertility rate whereas the European Region had the Lowest Total Fertility rate.
Niger, Somalia, and Chad had the highest Total Fertility rate whereas Republic Korea, China/Hong Kong SAR, and China/Macao SAR had the lowest Total Fertility rate,

The Total Fertility rate has been on an increase over the years.
